Britney Spears is undoubtedly the ever notorious female pop sensation. When you hear the name Britney, perhaps one of her break-through hits would spring into your mind. But all this fame would not have surfaced without the work of media. Her music was widely broadcasted and advertised by the media garnering her attention she needed at the critical stage of her career. However, because of this fame, mistakes that any other human being could have made were regarded severe when Britney Spears did them. To name a few, not wearing underwear, demonstrating little awareness of baby-carseat safety and padding around barefoot in public restrooms. These are actually acts that are committed almost everyday. Today, the little, normal daily routines performed by Britney Spears is published worldwide along with discriminating tabloids written about her. And finally, the infamous two-day marriage did it all. The media has the ability to twist and turn stories, crushing her credibility in the worst ways.
Ironically, the mass media was the reason for her rise, and eventually her fall.

The mass media has also brought about stereotyping. For example, the way blondes are regarded as dumb individuals. Words like ‘bimbotic’ has become widely used and most importantly, understood. This is one of the mega effects of the power of the media. The perception of beauty has too been distorted. Young boys and girls are subjected to reality programmes that portray being skinny and having sexual appeal as the most important factor. It then driven into their minds to slim down drastically and some teenagers even contemplate plastic surgery.

Due to the media, north and south hypothesis exists. For example, more developed countries make movies and portray smoking as ‘cool’. Less developed countries follow suit negatively.

i wrote this article along with auggy's help for my portfolio to apply into mass comm. haha. when the lecturer aka interviewer read it he immediately asked if i own a blog. i was like 'how did you guess??'.
